On The Edge Of My Seat  (2018)

A collaboration between Sharon McElroy and Esperanza Perkins

Conceived for Brighton Artists Open Houses 2018,and also shown as part of the Whitstable Biennale Satellite Programme 2018,  On The Edge Of My Seat embodies Sharon and Esperanza's mutual interest in social and familial bonds and people's relationships to their surroundings. Re-contextualising familiar motifs and objects associated with the seaside environment, both artist's use of typography and printed, stitched 'drawings' highlights the contrast between people's dreams and aspirations, and the realities, for some people, of a marginal existence in a coastal town.
